Junior Learn to Row

British rowing and explore rowing logos

Go Row at Warrington Rowing Club!  Learn the skills you need to progress rapidly to regional and national competitions! Make great friends with whom to share these exciting experiences!  Be a part of a club with members actively excelling in the GB National Squad!

What will I do?

The course normally runs for 3 months from the start of June, with typically 2 water sessions including gym elements each week, up to the end of the summer holidays.

You will learn basic technique on an indoor rowing machine, and further develop your skills out on the water in one of our many modern racing boats, under the guidance of our expert coaches!  You will further hone your skills and fitness in the gym, where you will take part in circuit training and rowing machine exercises.

You will also receive the Go Row handbook and logbook, containing lots of useful information.  It also outlines the Go Row 1, 2 and 3 awards, with space for you to tick off each skill you learn, and a place for your coach to sign.

  • Learn about safety, both on and off the water.
  • Be able to identify boats and equipment that you will be using.
  • Know what clothing to wear.
  • Learn the correct rowing technique.
  • Get very fit!

How much will it cost?

Just £100 including course-handbook!

Who can attend?

The course is aimed at children in year 7 – i.e. entering year 8 in the September immediately following the course.  If under-subscribed then we have been known to open the course to older children, so it is worth expressing an interest no matter which secondary school year you are in, up to year 10.

Those in year 7 will typically form our new “J13” junior squad when the course finishes.  Older children would be considered for assignment to one of our existing junior squads, but places are typically very limited and are therefore selective based on ability and prior attendance.

You must already be able to swim at least 50 meters in light sports clothing, tread water for at least 2 minutes, swim under water for 5 meters, and be in good general health.

How do I apply?

Our Summer 2018 course is now full.

To express an interest in next year’s course simply ask a parent / guardian to email warrington-juniorlearntorow@outlook.com with your name and current school year.  We will acknowledge your interest and contact you with information next year!

Many thanks for your interest!
