Junior Learn to Row

British rowing and explore rowing logos

We normally have a new intake for children in year 7 –  i.e. entering year 8 in the September immediately following the course – in May/June each year, with typically 2-3 water / gym sessions each week, up to the start of the summer holidays.

You will learn basic technique on an indoor rowing machine, and further develop your skills out on the water in one of our many modern racing boats, under the guidance of our expert coaches!  You will further hone your skills and fitness in the gym, where you will take part in circuit training and rowing machine exercises.

If under-subscribed then we have been known to open the course to older children, so it is worth expressing an interest no matter which secondary school year you are in, up to year 10.

Those in year 7 will typically form our new “J13” junior squad at the start of the following school year.  Older children would be considered for assignment to one of our existing junior squads, but places are typically very limited and are therefore selective based on ability and prior attendance.

You must already be able to swim at least 50 meters in light sports clothing, tread water for at least 2 minutes, swim under water for 5 meters, and be in good general health.

How do I apply?

Many thanks for your interest!
