WRC Members Update – 14th May 2020

Gradual return to water training, new website and more!

Hey fellow frustrated rowers!

It’s been almost eight weeks since we closed the shutters on our club and suspended water training. We very much hope that you have all kept safe and well during this time.

Following our committee meeting yesterday evening, we just wanted to get in touch with a couple of updates.

Outdoor rowing

The time has finally come for us to start to think about a safe reintroduction to water rowing for our members. Our safety officer, Mike Selway, is drawing up a plan to enable us to do this in a way that keeps us safe and in line with government rules and the latest British Rowing recommendations, which we are monitoring on a daily basis. (The latest update at the time of writing can be found here – Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update – 13 May)

We are all super keen to get back out on the water as soon as possible, but we ask you to be patient. We are sure you’ll agree the safety of our members, families, and the wider community has to be our priority and we need to make sure we have the correct procedures in place for restricted access to the club and safe equipment use, which will take time.

Please also bear in mind that this will be a phased approach and we are a while away from a return to normal operations or club activities.

Rest assured, we will share our plan with you as soon as possible. And it will be worth the wait!

In the meantime thank you all for your continued support of the club – whether that has been by actively engaging in the many virtual and online activities which continue to be available for now, or by patiently waiting for our safe return to the 3D world.

New website

You may have noticed that we have a new look website – with HUGE thanks to Lewis Heath.

A wonderful makeover with a fresh look and updated content! Please take the time to have a look around and let us know what you think. You can read about some of the things we have been doing during lockdown in our latest blog post!

Please do share this and other content on your social media timelines to raise the profile of our club, and increase traffic to our site.

We have lots of plans to continue to update the site and make it a valuable hub of information for members and the local community. If you would like to contribute content for the news page, please drop us a line!

Fundraiser

Don’t forget we are still raising funds with our Row / Run / Walk / Cycle around Europe. At last count we were heading towards Finland having covered a massive 6,472km!

We’ve raised well over £700 so far! Well done to all!

Stay safe. Stay well. Stay connected. And stay patiently excited about the imminent return to the sport we all love!

Thanks again, and very best wishes.

Your committee 🙂
