The shutters have finally opened at Warrington Rowing Club. As lockdown restrictions started to ease, senior members were invited to participate in the first phase of rowing on the water. The first of these sessions taking place today, Sunday 31st May 2020.

Senior members, who have experience in singles, and doubles containing rowers from the same household, were invited to participate in today’s session. Members were excited to get back on the water again after lockdown restrictions forced the committee to close the club on 17th March 2020.

Club Captain, Ian Smith, enjoying the sun and calm waters on Sunday afternoon.

Our Health and Safety Officer, Mike Selway, has been working tirelessly through government and British Rowing guidance to ensure a safe return. Social distancing, a limited rota, as well as club and equipment cleaning have made this possible.

Sessions will continue on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday until the second phase of returning to rowing is announced. If you would like to participate in the first phase, please contact Ian Smith (Please note: you must be a senior member and comfortable rowing in a single without a coach present).

The committee will continue to monitor the guidance being published and hope to be able to invite other members back to rowing soon.

Until then, stay safe, keep fit, and we look forward to seeing you on the water.
